Accounting Manager 
Up to £60,000 plus excellent benefits, including up to 10% employer pension contributions and an annual incentive scheme (Work Level 5)
15-month secondment (maternity cover)
Manchester City Centre – in this role you’ll work in a hybrid way splitting your time between home and coming to the office twice a month, with additional visits as required (find out more about our hybrid working policy at https://jobs.coop.co.uk/hybrid-working-policy).

We're looking for an experienced Accounting Manager to join us and help us to enable critical commercial decision-making that'll drive the performance of Co-op Food Retail, and help us to better serve our customers, members, and colleagues. If you have the accountancy expertise and natural people skills that we need, then we can offer you the opportunity to define your profile within a business that puts people at the heart of its strategy.

Why this role matters

In this role, you'll support in the delivery of high-profile, continuous improvement projects, helping us to establish new and more effective ways of working for our Food Retail business. You'll provide advice and guidance across a variety of teams, co-ordinate key processes and deputise for line manager.

What you'll do

•    Oversee balance sheet for the Food Business, including general oversight with focus areas on accounting reclasses, Capital and VAT
•    Coordinate audit tasks that span multiple teams across the finance as a key contact to our audit partner
•    Assist the Senior finance manager: Food in coaching and developing the team and in reviewing their work
•    Provide flexibility to assist wider management accounting team as required such as any project work and other key deadlines

What you’ll bring

We’re committed to making our roles as accessible as possible, so we only ask for the minimum criteria. To thrive here, you’ll need to bring:

•    ACA, CIMA, or ACCA qualification, preferable with two plus years post qualified experience
•    Previous experience of coaching others 
•    Previous experience of improving or introducing financial accounting processes
•    Outstanding communication skills, with the confidence to engage with colleagues at various levels of the business.
•    Confidence to influence others, and challenge when necessary
•    Ability to embrace change and champion new ways of working
•    The ability to mentor and support a team of colleagues
•    Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
•    Familiarity with accountancy systems (e.g. SAP/Cedar/Cognos)
