Manchester city centre, hybrid working 2 days a week in the office

In line with the Internal Mobility Policy, we’d like to make you aware that there is a preferred candidate who has been identified for this opportunity.

We’re looking for a Cash and Banking Manager to join our Co-op Business Services (CBS) department in Manchester. CBS is made up of a number of diverse teams dedicated to delivering high-quality, reliable and cost-effective business services across our Co-op. You’ll play a key role in helping CBS to support and realise our group vision of ‘co-operating to build more value for member-owners every day’.

As Cash and Banking Manager, you’ll provide vital financial support across the business and lead your team through major transformation projects. Over the next two years, we’re upgrading our operations to future-proof the business, bringing big benefits for colleagues, members, and customers.

You’ll be a recognised expert, shaping CBS’s banking and treasury strategy. If you can inspire teams, meet tight deadlines, and bring shared services experience, we can offer you the chance to build a career with a business that always puts people at the heart of its strategy.

What you’ll do

  • Lead a large team, through a significant period of change, verifying reconciliation and control of all cash and banking across Co-op Funeralcare Services
  • Improve the end-to-end reconciliation processes and further develop the control environment to make sure regulatory requirements are met
  • Focus on the continuous improvement of processes, procedures and best practices
  • Make sure that queries from our senior leaders are resolved quickly and accurately by the team, reporting on key trends and escalating issues if necessary
  • Work towards agreed timescales and cash optimisation targets agreed with our senior business leaders
  • Support successful internal and external audits
  • Build strong working relationships with senior leaders across the different business areas
  • Mentor, guide and inspire the team, identifying areas of improvement and encouraging personal development

This role would suit people who have

  • An accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA), which is essential
  • Proven leadership experience, with great people skills and the ability to inspire a team, whilst delivering change programmes within a large organisation
  • Previous banking experience within a shared services environment and a strong financial control background
  • Experience defining and delivering financial strategy
  • Strong relationship building skills with the ability to operate with senior leaders across the business, challenging and influencing where necessary

Why Co-op?

At Co-op, we’re owned by our members. And because we’re owned by you, we can do right by you. So when you join us, you’re not just taking a job, you’re joining a movement. We’re an organisation that puts people and communities first, and we’re powered by purpose. We want this to be a place where you can thrive, so you’ll also receive:

  • An annual bonus (based on personal and business performance)
  • 28 days holiday (rising to 32 with service) plus bank holidays
  • A pension with up to 10% employer contributions
  • Private healthcare
  • Access to a subsidised onsite gym (at our Manchester HQ)
  • Coaching and training to support your career development
  • Wagestream app – giving you access to a percentage of your pay as you earn
