Fixed Assets Assistant Accountant
£25,500 – 30,000 plus great benefits (Work Level 6C)
Manchester city centre, in this role you’ll work in a hybrid way splitting your time between home, and coming into the office once a week (find out more about our hybrid working policy at https://jobs.coop.co.uk/hybrid-working-policy).

We’re looking for a Fixed Assets Assistant Accountant to join the Financial Accounting team within our wider Co-op Business Services (CBS) organisation. CBS is made up of a number of diverse teams dedicated to delivering high-quality, reliable and cost-effective business services across our Co-op. You’ll play a key role in helping CBS to support and realise our group vision of ‘co-operating to build more value for member-owners every day’.

In this role you’ll be part of a small, collaborative team responsible for managing and maintaining our fixed asset register, covering everything from property and equipment to software. As the most senior member of the fixed assets team, you’ll lead on month-end tasks, journal entries, and balance sheet reconciliations, while supporting continuous improvement and stakeholder engagement.

Why this role matters

Our fixed assets team play a critical part in our financial reporting and operational infrastructure. This role helps ensure our asset data is accurate, compliant, and well-managed. You’ll work closely with internal teams across CBS and Financial Control to meet SLAs, respond to audit requests, and support the delivery of reliable financial information that underpins decision-making across the business.

What you’ll do

•    Lead month-end fixed asset processes, including journal entries, additions, adjustments, and transactions
•    Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations for fixed assets
•    Respond to external audit requests and support audit readiness
•    Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives within the fixed assets process
•    Build strong relationships with internal partners and external auditors, managing queries and supporting service delivery
•    Work closely with CBS and Financial Control teams to meet SLAs and critical metrics
•    Use data to monitor service performance, identify risks, and support improvement planning

What you’ll bring

•    A technical accounting qualification (AAT, ACCA, CIMA); or you’re working towards one
•    Experience working with fixed assets and preparing balance sheet reconciliations
•    Strong Excel skills (including VLOOKUPs and pivot tables)
•    Experience working in a shared services or business services environment
•    Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills, with the ability to work on your own initiative
•    Strong communication skills, with the ability to build great relationships with internal partners across the business
•    A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement
•    Experience using SAP would be advantageous, but is not required

•    A pension with up to 10% employer contributions
•    Access to a subsidised onsite gym (at our Manchester HQ)
