Head of Commercial 

Up to £120,000 plus great benefits including a bonus and car (Work Level 4) 

Manchester City Centre, in this role you’ll work in a hybrid way splitting your time between the office around 2 to 3 times a week, visiting suppliers and home based working (find out more about our hybrid working policy at https://jobs.coop.co.uk/hybrid-working-policy ). 

We’re looking for Heads of Commercial to join our Co-op and contribute to our bold ambitions to be industry leaders, opening up new opportunities for our future as a Commercial business.

It’s a big job and you’ll be at the forefront of transformation. It’s your chance to shape how we do things, leading a successful team, growing multi-channel value and making sure our customers and member-owners receive great service through the decisions we make. We'll look to you to bring ideas to life, turning insight into proposals, engaging the right people, and delivering meaningful plans to drive growth in a key area of our business.

What you’ll do

  • Drive sales, manage costs, and build strong supplier relationships, whilst supporting your team to source and buy the products our customers love 
  • Inspire the wider team and role model Co-op behaviours and values to drive our commercial team forward for the future 
  • Be responsible for delivering our financial plans through an end-to-end Food business approach, taking shared ownership of our Commercial KPIs and 4-year-plan 
  • Drive sales by being customer focused and delivering profitable customer propositions 
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with suppliers and outward industry partner relationships on behalf of Co-op 
  • Proactively plan for the future growth of your category by analysing external market trends to spot new opportunities 
  • Work with insights to identify trends and convert them into customer centric propositions 

This role would suit people who have

  • Proven negotiation skills within a sales or trading environment 
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen 
  • An awareness of industry trends and the current market 
  • Experience leading and motivating a successful team
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex information
