We’re looking for a Direct Tax Manager to join us and develop their career with a Fair Tax Mark accredited business. As part of our direct tax team, you’ll build strong relationships with partners in different parts of the business across corporation taxes, and you’ll be responsible for helping make sure we meet all of Co-op’s corporation tax reporting and compliance requirements, as well as assisting on corporate development projects.

Reporting directly to the Senior Direct Tax Manager within our wider in-house tax team, you’ll play a key role in the development of the Corporation Tax reporting and compliance function for Co-op and its subsidiaries, ensuring that all reporting and regulatory deadlines are met and finding opportunities to make our processes more efficient. What you’ll do
• Prepare tax computations, disclosures, and forecasts for Co-op and its subsidiary accounts for review, working to agreed timetables
• Prepare claims as necessary to help optimise Co-op’s overall corporate tax position
• Deal with HMRC enquiries and information requests raised by Co-op’s auditors on a timely basis
• Support the provision of regular, robust and consistent tax forecasting process and prepare associated tax cashflow forecasts
• Identify development and improvement opportunities within Co-op’s compliance and reporting processes, and work with wider Co-op teams, focusing on management of internal tax controls
• Carry out other work, including working with corporate development and ad-hoc tasks as required associated with the management of Co-op’s Corporation Tax requirements
• Coach and mentor junior staff, sharing knowledge, experience, and expertise in order to develop their abilities and behaviours
• Work closely with teams across the business to identify areas of tax risk and tax opportunities
What you’ll bring
We’re committed to making our roles as accessible as possible, so we only ask for the minimum criteria. To thrive here, you’ll need to bring:
• Significant corporate tax experience in a relevant role, including an advanced technical knowledge of Corporation Tax – ideally, CTA and/or ACA qualified (or equivalent)
• Strong understanding of accounts and accounting under IFRS, including proven ability in tax accounting and reporting
• An ability to extract, analyse, and interpret data and apply the appropriate corporate tax treatment
• Awareness of the interaction of other taxes with Corporation Tax, including VAT and PAYE
• Demonstrable ability to assess risks and commercial impact of changes to tax legislation and IFRS accounting
• The ability to self-motivate and plan and organise their own workload to manage competing priorities
• Strong communication and people skills, with the ability to build meaningful relationships with partners across the business
• An analytical approach, with the ability to manage and review work undertaken by others
• Good Excel skills
