Energy Development Manager
ManchesterEnergy Development Manager
£Competitive plus great benefits including car / car allowance (Work Level 5)
Manchester city centre, in this role you’ll work in a hybrid way splitting your time between home and the office, with occasional travel.
In line with the Internal Mobility Policy, we’d like to make you aware that there is a preferred candidate who has been identified for this opportunity.
We’re looking for an Energy Development Manager who can lead the way in creating innovative energy solutions that help us meet our climate commitments and unlock new commercial opportunities. This is a big-picture role with real impact: you’ll design and deliver our long-term energy infrastructure strategy, making sure Co-op stays at the forefront of decarbonisation.
You’ll work on major projects that support everything from renewable generation and battery storage to EV (electric vehicle) charging and grid flexibility. You’ll also help us influence UK policy through our Public Affairs team, making sure the regulatory environment supports our net zero ambitions. And beyond that, you’ll explore how we can share our energy expertise as B2B offerings.
What you’ll do
• Lead the development and delivery of Co-op’s long-term energy infrastructure strategy across all business areas
• Develop and implement our EV charging strategy for colleagues, fleet, and customers
• Act as project lead for renewable generation, battery storage, and strategic grid resilience projects
• Work closely with teams across Engineering & Standards, Construction, Sustainability, PMO, and external consultants to integrate energy strategy into major property projects
• Oversee feasibility studies and pilots, scaling successful models across the business
What you’ll bring
• Significant experience in project and change management, ideally in energy or decarbonisation focused projects
• Strong stakeholder management skills; you’ll work with colleagues and partners across different areas
• Ability to turn complex technical information into clear, engaging communications for different audiences
• Knowledge and experience of renewable energy
Why Co-op?

We’re an organisation that puts people and communities first, and we’re powered by purpose. We want this to be a place where you can thrive, so you’ll also receive:
• An annual bonus (based on personal and business performance)
• 28 days holiday (rising to 32 with service) plus bank holidays
• A pension with up to 10% employer contributions
• Private healthcare
• Access to a subsidised onsite gym (at our Manchester HQ)
• Coaching and training to support your career development
• Wagestream app – giving you access to a percentage of your pay as you earn
