We’re looking for a motivated and people-focused warehouse shift manager to join our Avonmouth depot team. At Co-op, we believe in putting our customers, colleagues, and communities at the heart of everything we do. We encourage our teams to share their ideas to help us improve the way we work in our innovative depots. And Avonmouth really is an impressive operation, delivering 950,000 thousand cases of produce a week to 490 Co-op stores across south-west England and Wales.
Why this role matters
In this role, you’ll look after all aspects of the warehouse operation over the course of a shift, including leading, developing, and engaging a multi-skilled team of up to 180 indirect reports and 10 direct reports. We’ll also look to you to drive health and safety within the depot, making sure our colleagues are safe and secure. You’ll have a big responsibility in controlling costs, such as Shift KPI focus linked to budget targets, absence, premium pay, and overtime. It’s a real challenge. But if you can bring us the people and organisational skills that we need, we can offer you the chance to progress your career with a business that puts people at the centre of its strategy.
What you’ll do
• Lead, encourage and mentor a large team
• Have a clear focus on all aspects of health and safety within the depot
• Take ownership of the day to day running of the shift, developing your team of managers and warehouse colleagues
• Inspire, engage and coach your team to be highly efficient within warehouse operations
• Successfully meet targets and critical measures through effective team management
• Develop and build positive relationships with a range of key business partners
• Drive warehouse standards, procedures and policies, having a strong presence within the warehouse arenas
• Identify areas to improve processes within your team and the wider warehouse operation
• Be a role model for hundreds of colleagues, working at pace and accuracy
What you’ll bring
We’re committed to making our roles as accessible as possible, so we only ask for the minimum criteria. To thrive here, you’ll need to bring:
• Strong people leadership skills, with proven experience of managing a sizeable successful team
• A passion for supporting and developing others; you know how to get the best out of your colleagues and can take your team on a journey of personal growth
• The ability to lead and inspire change in a fast-paced environment
• A high level of accuracy and attention to detail
• The ability to plan and coordinate own and the teams’ workload; taking ownership and responsibility for the team whilst encouraging development
• Great relationship building skills with the ability to work collaboratively with other teams and departments
Why Co-op?
At Co-op, we’re owned by our members. And because we’re owned by you, we can do right by you. So when you join us, you’re not just taking a job, you’re joining a movement. We’re an organisation that puts people and communities first, and we’re powered by purpose. We want this to be a place where you can thrive, so you’ll also receive:
• Great holiday allowance (rising in line with service)
• A pension with up to 10% employer contributions
• 30% discount on Co-op products and 10% off other brands
• Stream – early access to a percentage of your pay as you earn it
• Virtual healthcare including GP appointments, mental health support, nutrition and fitness advice
• 24/7 colleague support service
• Training and support for your development and career progression
