£65,000 to £75,000 (depending on experience) plus great benefits (Work Level 5)
Manchester city centre (hybrid – splitting your time between home and the office based on business needs)

We’re reshaping our Digital, Technology and Data function for the future, creating new opportunities, strengthening our capability, and building clearer, more resilient ways of working so we can deliver even better services for our Co-op, our colleagues, members and customers.

As part of this, we’re looking for Engineering Managers to join our Manchester-based team. In this role, you’ll lead, coach, and supported talented engineers across a range of teams and technical areas. You’ll play a big part in developing engineering capability, nurturing career growth, and working alongside leaders from across Co-op to build a strong, connected engineering community.

What you’ll do

•    Line manage the engineers and quality coaches in your team, supporting their wellbeing and career development
•    Be responsible for the technical capability of your team (e.g., code quality, standards adherence, deployment health, and on-call response)
•    Create a healthy, inclusive team environment where engineers can thrive
•    Collaborate with Product Managers and Delivery Managers to support with engineering activities
•    Support engineering recruitment activities including interviews, assessments, hiring decisions and onboarding
•    Collaborate with third parties and make sure they fulfil the agreed deliverables and commitments

What you’ll bring

We’re committed to making our roles as accessible as possible, so we only ask for the minimum criteria. To thrive here, you’ll need to bring:

•    Experience managing, coaching and supporting the development of a large, multi-disciplinary teams
•    Solid knowledge of at least one programming language (e.g., Java, C#), infrastructure as code tools (e.g., Terraform, Puppet), cloud platform (e.g., AWS, Azure), or a background in quality assurance
•    Strong communication skills, with the ability to build positive, collaborative relationships

We’re open to flexible working arrangements, including condensed hours, shorter working days, or a 4-day week. 
You’ll also benefit from hybrid working, with occasional travel to our Manchester office for team days, meetings, and events.
