Manchester city centre - in this role you’ll work in a hybrid way splitting your time between home and the office two or three days per week (find out more about our hybrid working policy at https://jobs.coop.co.uk/hybrid-working-policy).

At Co-op, we’re not driven purely by profit. We’re owned by our members, and everything we do is about delivering value in a way that’s fair, sustainable and right for our communities.

We’re looking for a Head of Commercial Value Creation to lead how we unlock value across our Food Commercial teams, delivering large-scale cost savings and profitability improvements while strengthening our customer offer and sustainability commitments.

Why this role matters

This is a rare opportunity to shape value creation end-to-end in a business where commercial performance and social impact go hand in hand. As Head of Value Creation, you’ll operate at the centre of Commercial, with true cross-functional influence across Buying, Supply Chain, Finance, Propositions and Sustainability, leading large-scale initiatives that drive cost, cash and margin improvements without compromising what makes Co-op different.

If you’re motivated by delivering meaningful, measurable impact at scale, this is your chance to do it in a way that goes beyond the bottom line.

What you’ll do

•    Own and deliver our commercial value creation strategy and multi-year roadmap
•    Lead enterprise-wide programmes to unlock cost, cash and margin improvements
•    Partner cross-functionally to drive end-to-end value across the supply chain
•    Support strategic supplier relationships to deliver mutual, sustainable value
•    Make sure that sustainability is considered in value creation activity
•    Champion data-led decision making, improving pace and quality of commercial decisions
•    Act as a senior lead on complex negotiations and value delivery initiatives
•    Build capability across Buying through standards, tools and development
•    Lead and inspire a high-performing, curious team of 6 colleagues

What you’ll bring

We’re committed to making our roles as accessible as possible, so we only ask for the minimum criteria. To thrive here, you’ll need to bring:

•    Senior leadership experience in retail, FMCG or complex supply chain environments
•    Strong commercial and value chain expertise across cost, margin and supplier dynamics
•    Ability to influence at Exec level and drive cross-functional change
•    Experience embedding data, tools and insight into commercial decision making
•    A mindset focused on continuous improvement, curiosity and long-term value

Why Co-op?

At Co-op, we’re owned by our members. And because we’re owned by you, we can do right by you. So when you join us, you’re not just taking a job, you’re joining a movement. We’re an organisation that puts people and communities first, and we’re powered by purpose. We want this to be a place where you can thrive, so you’ll also receive:

•    An annual bonus (based on personal and business performance)
•    28 days holiday (rising to 32 with service) plus bank holidays
•    A pension with up to 10% employer contributions
•    Company car or £6,000 car allowance
•    Private healthcare
•    Access to a subsidised onsite gym (at our Manchester HQ)
•    30% discount on Co-op products and 10% off other brands
•    Stream – early access to a percentage of your pay as you earn it
•    Virtual healthcare including GP appointments, mental health support, nutrition and fitness advice
•    24/7 colleague support service
•    Training and support for your development and career progression
•    Cycle-to-work scheme

A place you’ll belong

We’re building diverse and inclusive teams that reflect the communities we serve. We welcome applications from everyone and are committed to creating a workplace where colleagues can feel like they belong, supported by our inclusive policies and the ways we work.
