We’re looking for a Risk Compliance Lead to join us and help us to keep our customers and colleagues safe by reviewing compliance in our stores, supporting our store colleagues, and being involved in our wider risk plan for 2027/2028. We’re a business that’s all about people, and it’s more important than ever that we put our colleagues’ safety and wellbeing at the heart of everything we do.

Why this role matters

In this role, we’ll look to you to make sure that our Store and Operation Managers are equipped with the tools and knowledge they need to safely operate our stores. You’ll provide key support to our Retail Risk, Health, and Safety function, visiting Co-op stores across South East Scotland, coaching our store colleagues, and carrying out assessments to understand what’s working well and where improvements can be made. If you’ve got great communication skills and know how our food stores work, then we can give you the opportunity to develop your career in retail risk and gain great exposure across our business.

What you’ll do

•    Carry out risk assessments for stores across South East Scotland, making sure that processes and procedures are being fully adhered to
•    Present assessment findings to our Operation Managers, drawing out key insights to aid decision-making
•    Investigate and report on any incidents that occur in stores within your remit
•    Meet regularly with key partners across stores, including store managers, Operation managers, regional operational managers and divisional operating directors, providing coaching to make sure that safe and legal operating practices are fully understood and to develop working relationships
•    Provide support for projects, helping to make sure that stores are fully prepared for any change related to risk

What you’ll bring

We’re committed to making our roles as accessible as possible, so we only ask for the minimum criteria. To thrive here, you’ll need to bring:

•    A solid understanding of our Co-op food store processes and procedures
•    Great communication skills, with the ability to confidently engage and influence senior colleagues
•    Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.)
•    The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
•    A full UK driving licence with the flexibility to travel regularly within the UK
•    A NEBOSH qualification, or a willingness to work towards one

Why Co-op?

At Co-op, we’re owned by our members. And because we’re owned by you, we can do right by you. So when you join us, you’re not just taking a job, you’re joining a movement. We’re an organisation that puts people and communities first, and we’re powered by purpose. We want this to be a place where you can thrive, so you’ll also receive:

•    An annual bonus (based on personal and business performance)
•    28 days holiday (rising to 32 with service) plus bank holidays
•    A pension with up to 10% employer contributions
•    Access to a subsidised onsite gym (at our Manchester HQ)
•    30% discount on Co-op products and 10% off other brands
•    Stream – early access to a percentage of your pay as you earn it
•    Virtual healthcare including GP appointments, mental health support, nutrition and fitness advice
•    24/7 colleague support service
•    Training and support for your development and career progression
•    Cycle-to-work scheme

A place you’ll belong

We’re building diverse and inclusive teams that reflect the communities we serve. We welcome applications from everyone and are committed to creating a workplace where colleagues can feel like they belong, supported by our inclusive policies and the ways we work.
