Role Summary

​This role is accountable for developing, implementing and assuring the strategies for Data Quality and Regulatory & Process Compliance in Commercial. This includes data related disciplines such as ownership of the data quality improvement plan in Commercial, contributing to and overseeing the strategic direction for regulatory & process compliance, and providing clearly defined reporting tools with ownership and responsibility.

Key Responsibilities


Managing Data Quality & Regulatory & Process Compliance

  • Working in partnership with the Co-op Data Enablement Team, Data Owners & Data Stewards, design and develop a Data Quality continuous improvement plan and strategy for Commercial.  
  • Working with Heads of Commercial build and design a comprehensive regulatory and process compliance dashboard
  • Build a colleague engagement strategy and plan, working collaboratively to develop and adapt accordingly so that it enables colleague feedback to be incorporated during the launch, embedding and sustaining the data quality and compliance framework.
  • Ensure appropriate tracking and measurement plans are in place and are monitored  
  • Lead Commercial colleagues through the compliance strategy and dashboards to ensure compliance measures and understood and that there is a focus on ongoing learning and improvement  

Managing Stakeholders

  • Identify key stakeholder groups that need to be engaged and develop, execute and maintain a stakeholder engagement strategy, building effective relationships with stakeholders up to and including Coop Leaders both in Commercial and Pan Co-op.
  • Provide direct support and coaching to all levels of leaders and managers as they help their teams through understanding the importance of data quality and a culture of compliance in Commercial

Executing Data Quality & Compliance Change

  • Depending on the scale and complexity of the regulation change or compliance issue, execute key components of the strategy in Partnership with the Commercial Change & Delivery Team & Commercial Change & Improvement Process Team
  • Engage with communications and training and development experts ensuring insight is shared and informs communications and training plans or lead these activities when appropriate. Develop and deliver these activities as required.
  • Ensure all change related governance activity is completed and assure the quality of submissions to all governance forums.  

Developing a Compliance Culture

  • Coach and develop others across the Commercial Team, building capability and a compliance and data quality culture for future.  
  • Be an advocate for data quality and compliance management and support in developing the understanding across the wider Commercial team, reinforcing the importance of managing noncompliance and data quality issues
  • Role model the Being Co-op ways of working (Do What Matters Most, Show You Care, Be Yourself Always, Succeed Together) at all times, and work to embed these both within the team and across the wider business.

Freedom to Make Decisions

  • Development of strategies across Regulatory & Process Compliance in partnership with Stakeholders in other business areas

Planning Horizon

  • Contributes to the development of the functional strategy for own area of the organisation (sub-function or area), generally for up to 12-18 months ahead, developing detailed plans that will deliver strong business performance.
  • Accountable for development of 12-18 month plan for Commercial Data Quality and Regulatory & Process compliance in Commercial.  
  • Plan and organise own workload or workload of team managed, including task and resource allocation, in order to ensure delivery against he commercial risk register and compliance framework planning months to years ahead

Knowledge, Skills, Experience  

  • ​​Significant experience in identifying, triaging and managing data quality issues, developing data quality  controls, producing compliance dashboards and excellent understanding of compliance
  • ​Ability to formulate risk register, controls and risk management framework in line with customer and commercial objectives and functional strategy
  • ​Ability to communicate, influence and present at a senior level
  • ​Knowledge of external best practice relevant to the role
  • ​Excellent communication and influencing skills and the ability to establish, manage and maintain strong complex stakeholder relationships
  • ​​Flexible to operate in an agile environment  
  • ​Ability to influence others and move toward a common vision or goal
  • ​Flexible and adaptable; able to work in ambiguous situations

  • ​Highly analytical and able to present complex data to wide audiences in a compelling way  
  • ​Confidence with established management methodologies to manage and embed the importance of data quality and compliance culture in Commercial
  • ​Ability to work with ambiguity and conflicting priorities; ability to cut through complexity to keep focus where required​
