Role Summary: 
To act as an experienced subject matter expert for Social Mobility, Inclusion and Belonging, shaping and driving key areas of the strategy while influencing stakeholders across the business. The role will lead the delivery of key initiatives, manage change and competing priorities with confidence, and use strong communication, judgement and personal initiative to embed inclusion and equity into how Co-op attracts, develops and supports colleagues, and delivers its services in an inclusive way.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a valued member of an influential SMIB team, working both autonomously and under direction from the Head of SMIB to support the team’s objectives, with a strong focus on delivery, outcomes and impact.

  •      Act as a purpose-driven enabler across the organisation, providing subject matter expertise and practical support to translate strategic priorities into effective service delivery.

  •      Represent the SMIB function with confidence, credibility and sound judgement.

  •      Take responsibility for delivering agreed outcomes within assigned projects, ensuring activity is well planned, evidence-led and aligned to wider SMIB priorities, with a particular focus on people priorities of the SMIB strategy.

  •      Use insight, data and external good practice to identify systemic barriers, shape interventions and support inclusive decision-making.

  •      Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across the business, influencing leaders and partners to embed inclusive practices and achieve shared outcomes.

  •      Communicate clearly and confidently with a range of audiences, adapting messages to support understanding, engagement and action.

  •      Use initiative to respond to emerging needs, pivoting plans where appropriate while keeping delivery focused on agreed outcomes and strategic intent.

  •      Provide effective oversight of colleague networks, supporting their governance, alignment, impact and contribution to the wider Social Mobility, Inclusion and Belonging agenda.

  • Role model inclusive behaviours and contribute to a culture where colleagues feel valued, heard and able to thrive.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience:
  • Experience developing and implementing organisation-wide inclusion, diversity, belonging and/or social mobility strategies, translating insight and business priorities into measurable programmes that deliver sustainable cultural and organisational change. 

  • Experience influencing senior leaders and leading complex cross-functional initiatives, successfully embedding new ways of working, policies or programmes across multiple business areas through effective stakeholder engagement and change management.
