Role Summary

Support the design and delivery of proactive total reward solutions, that enhance our Co-op’s ability to attract, retain and develop talented colleagues, so that we successfully deliver our vision and strategy. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing advice and support to People colleagues on total reward policy and practices such as Job Evaluation, Benchmarking and Insight, package and salary offer modelling, salary change administration such as Out of cycle processes or salary management, Benefits and Wellbeing policies.
  • Pro-actively own and manage data requirements for the team, building internal and external relationships to improve the quality and availability of relevant business and market data.  
  • Complete detailed and complex analysis to develop solutions to total reward challenges, interrogating and interpreting the data into suitable outputs to inform decision making. 
  • Lead on design and implementation of small-scale change projects - i.e. smaller impact or less complex change.
  • Supporting medium and large change projects e.g. ASRs/Bonus - taking ownership for elements of the overall deliverable.
  • Review existing People and Reward policies, contributing Total Reward view/improvements and maintaining documentation on the Reward Hub and Wellbeing Hubs.
  • Completion of ad hoc requests for advice, Total Reward MI and salary surveys
  • Develop knowledge of all business areas / total reward processes, supporting Total Reward Managers on a variety of deliverables across different business areas.
  • Deliver the technical implementation of total reward changes, building technical specifications and overseeing detailed implementation plans such as for MyHR and Compensation Module changes working closely with CBS and ITEF.
  • Drive a focus on continuous improvement in total reward delivery, proactively addressing blockers to efficient processes, and highlighting opportunities to work smarter or introduce automation 
  • Be the expert in your field by building networks and through CPD (relevant seminars, webinars, articles and forums) to make sure your business and industry knowledge is up to date, enabling meaningful insight on trends and market challenges to help inform strategic direction.  
  • Provide advice to People and business stakeholders at all levels, in relation to reward process and policy. 
  • Proactively engage with other People teams such as CBS and ITEF to agree roles and responsibilities in relation to cyclical total reward deliverables, or business-led change projects. 
  • Undertake job evaluation and confirm role sizing in conjunction with one or more peers. 
  • Propose total reward packages or changes in line with established reward governance and benchmarking processes. 
  • Manage the day-to-day query management for reward such as the Reward Inbox and Helpdesk. 
  • Plan delivery of small to medium-sized reward-related change, or reward aspects of a broader change. 
  • Scan the external environment and make recommendations on future changes to Co-op Total Reward
  • Contributes to short-term (annual) planning within the team and collaborates with peers to deliver great work that enables the team to succeed. 
  • Identifies and shares opportunities to improve the way the Co-op operates, to successfully achieve our vision. 
  • As an individual contributor, provides thought leadership to determine the most effective approach to challenges within own area of expertise
  • Professional roles providing expertise and advice to peers and or middle management roles leading operational teams. 

Knowledge, Skills, Experience

  • Advanced Excel skills, with the ability to deal with large volumes of data and to manipulate that data to identify issues and trends.
  • Experience of designing models to support design work, consistent with Co-op ways of working.
  • Hay Job evaluation methodology trained. 
  • Able to utilise good market knowledge and experience of good reward practice attained through reward networks and market exposure.
  • Awareness of relevant legislation, i.e. maternity Leave, redundancy, NMW, Equal Pay, GPR, Equality Act.
  • Knowledge of payroll and payroll processes. 
  • Communicates technical subject matter to a non-technical audience in order to build engagement and understanding
